Chapter Leader

Matteo Marinelli – Bachelor Degree in Economics and Management of Public Institutions and International Relations (CLAPI) in 2003. @  

In Phnom Penh, Cambodia, since 2010 where he co-set up BlueOrchard’s first Asian regional office managing BlueOrchard’s portfolio in South Asia, South East Asia, China, Mongolia and the Pacific Islands. Prior to joining BlueOrchard he worked in the field with microfinance institutions, international donor agencies and consulting firms including Banyan Global in Afghanistan, MEDA in Tanzania, FAO in Thailand and WHO in Serbia. He has received field training from Grameen Bank in Bangladesh and attended the Boulder Microfinance Training Program. His master’s dissertation addressed the issue of microfinance in post conflict countries in the Balkan region, where he spent several months collecting data in Kosovo, Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia Herzegovina. Matteo holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Bocconi University, Italy, and diplomas from the London School of Economics, University of California at Berkeley and New York University, USA. He is fluent in English and Spanish, clumsy in French and currently studying Khmer.

Livio Valenti, Bachelor Degree in Economics and Management of Public Institutions and International Relations (CLAPI) in 2007.
Livio is working as country economist for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, managing a portfolio of food security and rural development related programs in Cambodia. He also worked for the World Bank, the United Nations Capital Development Fund and the United Nations Development Programme. Livio has also several experiences working in startups as a founder and CEO of MeiPort Limited, a social enterprise. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Economics and Management of Public Institutions and International Relations from Bocconi University and a Double Master degree in international Management from Bocconi-Fudan Universities (Italy and China), sponsored by the Italian Government. He is currently a fellow of the Center for International Development at Harvard Kennedy School of Government, where he focuses on business-government policy and international trade and finance. Livio will be soon leaving us to join the Harvard Kennedy School of Government to pursue his Master of Public Administration / International Development but we are sure that his support and friendship will be felt even across the Atlantic.


Elisa Sabbion – Bachelor Degree in International Economics and Management (DIEM) in 2007

Program Analyst at UNDP in Cambodia, after two years of progressive career development within the organization, she is currently providing advise, oversight on financial risk management and managing the resource mobilization aspects of a 25m USD project on Landmine clearance and a 5m USD aid policy and coordination program. 

She formerly worked with both bilateral institutions and International NGOs. Her focus has been on private sector development and engagement as project facilitator for the Growing Sustainable Businesses Initiatives; as manager for a project to engage private sector, key actor to achieve sustainable economic growth, within UNDP programs; and as consultant developing the proposal for a national voucher training system scheme, in Sudan.
After travelling in Latin America, volunteering and following two study exchanges in Brazil and Argentina, Elisa decided to set aside her Hotelier prospects in Italy and the economics studies. Hence, she obtained a diploma in Emergencies and Humanitarian Intervention from the Istituto di Studi Politici Internazionali as well as a Master in Social Policy and Development from the London School of Economics.
