The BAA Munich Chapter hosted an ispiring meeting with the former German Finance Minister on the dynamics of the euro and European integration.
On Thursday 19, the BAA Chapter in Munich hosted the fourth "Speaker's corner" event in two years, an important associative moment to take as a model for all the events organized in Italy and abroad.
Dr. Theo Waigel, the former German finance minister from 1989 to 1998 who masterminded the financial details of the German unification and the introduction of the Euro (coining its name!), delivered a passionate speech on "What holds Europe together?" to a large audience of Bocconi Alumni and friends.
Dr. Waigel, who sat for thirty years on the German Parliament benches and is now a member of the Supervisory Board of Unicredit besides holding several other high-profile posts, thrilled the audience with his uncompromised belief in the European project from a cultural, political and economic standpoint and his vibrant appeal to take stance on European matters.
His speech was followed by a panel discussion involving Mr. Pietro Guindani, BAA President, and Prof. Franco Bruni, the Bocconi Chair for International and Monetary Economics, who debated with Dr. Waigel the merits and the challenges surrounding the quest for balance between stability and solidarity in the European financial matters, leaving in the audience more than a glimpse of hope. A memorable conversation that has explained, in a very comprehensive manner, the dynamics of the euro and European integration.
The event was kindly sponsored by Unicredit and held in one of its flagship venues in the center of Munich. At the end, Mr. Pier Paolo Raimondi, the BAA Munich Chapter Leader, handed to Dr. Waigel a photo book about the history of Milan told through its buildings, including the Bocconi Aula Magna building.
